Arrived!

Although it’s only been my second day here, I feel like I’ve been here forever! All of my flights went really well. I even watched Hunger Games on the way to London, so that was it exciting! Once I landed in Entebbe, getting my visa and bag and money was easier than I thought it would be. I found my driver and we left for Jinja…and drivers in Uganda are insane! I closed my eyes at some point because I’d rather not see all of the close calls.
Once I arrived at Ekisa, one of the mamas and other volunteers, Whitney, greeted me. I was able to spend some time with the children and talking with everyone. It was a bit hectic, as a volunteer who had been here for 10 months was leaving and all of the children were very sick! I tried staying awake as long as I could but jet lag got the best of me and I went to sleep from about 5 pm til the next morning. I slept a bit this morning as well, but spent some time loving on the kids and went into town for lunch and grocery shopping. Jinja is a beautiful place and I just was in awe of how wonderful it is being here! I also had my first boda experience, which is a motorcycle. It got a bit crazy, but it was fun for sure!
When we got back to Ekisa, it was about dinner time so I was able to feed a sweet little boy named Jo Jo, who never fails to make you smile! Then Morgan and I went to meet Whitney at an amazing restaurant filled with a lot of “mzungus” (white people). We got back to find there was a rat in the kitchen..yikes. God is for sure going to make me get over my fear of creatures on this trip!
There are so many things I wish I could put into words but really it’s so hard. The people of this country are beautiful. This orphanage is a beautiful thing. However, right now one of the directors has malaria and 10 children do as well. Please pray for them to get better! A lot of the other children have colds as well—it’s not fun hearing lots of little ones coughing and crying. But it is beautiful seeing how everyone in the staff is working together like a body. Each person has duties that the other need. So wonderful how God works and I love how I can see it first hand! So thankful for this amazing opportunity and thankful for all your prayers! :)

Here are some pictures from the first 2 days. I miss you all so much!
